Tengwang Pavilion, as well as Yellow Crane Tower and Yueyang Tower are the three renowned towers along the south of Yangtze River. It was initially built in the fourth year of the Yonghui Period(AD 653) in Tang Dynasty by Li Yuanying, who was a young brother of Li Shimin, the Tang Taizong Emperor, when he ruled as the Military Governor of Hongzhou Prefecture. It has been well-known in the history due to The Preface to Tengwang Pavilion by Wang Bo, a celebrated poet in the early Tang Dynasty. Han Yu, a great litterateur once eulogized that ¡°There are a bunch of beautiful views along the Yangtze River, among which Tengwang Pavilion is ranked the Number One with its magnificence and uniqueness¡±. So it enjoys the reputation of ¡°the first pavilion in the west of the south of Yangtze River.¡± . |
